THE ORIGIN STORY

My sincere heart for Jesus and a very unique fashion sense are two things that set me apart as a teenager in the 90s. 

I stuck out amongst my friends because at 12 years old I started wearing suits regularly. As I got older, I would frequently bargain with my friends that if I was going out for the night with them, then the next morning,  they would come to church. Without fail, their reply would be, “I don’t have any church clothes” and “I don’t dress like you”. I would have to remind them that a christian is not a look, it is a way of life. 

This was a common theme because I recall this one time I was talking to a stranger at a bus stop - just coming from work -  baggy pants, dirty timberlands, oversized hoodie and honestly, just happy my day was over.  

Down on his luck, this guy asked if I could spare some change. I remember handing him a couple dollars and asking if I could give him something more valuable - prayer.

We prayed together and he caught me off guard by saying, "Man, you don’t even look like you’re saved”. 

With a curious laugh I replied  “well what does saved look like?” 

At that moment I didn’t know it but it was foreshadowing for the revelation that was about to come.  The man said, “most of the time, you can tell who christians are by their appearance.” 

Instantly, the Lord revealed to me that we should wear our testimony because our anointing is not just in us but it’s on us. 

For the rest of the bus ride, the Lord started revealing His vision for A Touch Of Hem (ATOH) - a full clothing brand that would spread his word and share the gospel through apparel outside of what may look like what a “traditional Christian” would wear. We are not another Jesus shirt on the bottom shelf of a chain store but countless anointed designs, each one born out of divine revelation - a true fashion for the faithful. 

God is always raising a new group of people with a different method of sharing an unchanging gospel. Even though His word is not new, we believe this is a fresh approach given to a broken world where society judges by physical appearance. 

Why not walk in healing, by wearing your testimony?

Matthew 9:20-22 describes a woman who had been suffering from a chronic illness for twelve years. She had spent all her money on doctors without relief. She came behind Jesus in the crowd and touched the edge of his garment. It was by her faith that the power to be healed was released. 

Continuing in that same faith, the Lord placed on my heart to name the brand A Touch of Hem (ATOH), not just for the Hem, as in a garment, or for the Hymn, as in a song, but most importantly Him, as in Jesus Christ.

So this is for you, standing at your own “bus stop” in life, with the world challenging your faith… expressing  “this is what saved looks like” through ATOH.
